“It is estimated that 21 million people in the UK live with allergic disease.”1 Allergy Awareness Week, held on the 21st to the 27th of April this year, is an opportunity for everyone to do their part to learn more about allergies and to support those with them.
Whether you suffer from allergies or not, you can participate in Allergy Awareness Week in a number of ways:
- Educate yourself and others: Learn about different types of allergies, their symptoms, and how to manage them; and share this information with others.
- Support and advocate for allergy-friendly initiatives in schools, workplaces, and public spaces: Promote allergen-free foods, allergy alerts, etc.
- Participate in events: Attend allergy education and support webinars, workshops, and community events.
- Share your story: Personal stories about your allergies or those of your loved ones can help others with similar difficulties, so share them on social media or in your community.
- Donate to allergy research: By contributing to organizations that fund research, you can help advance treatments.
- Promote allergy awareness in schools: Work with local schools to be sure that they have allergy policies, properly trained staff, and emergency medication.2
