RIDDOR Updates

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) hasn’t updated the Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations (RIDDOR) for 13 years. They are now planning to do so and have opened a public consultation to all stakeholders from all sectors and industries, as well as associated professions, including health care practitioners. Responses are sought on questions that will impact policy development and cost benefit assumptions. Respondents must submit their comments by 30 June 2026.

HSE has also produced software that aids companies with their legal duty to report workplace injuries, near misses, and work-related diseases to the HSE under the terms of RIDDOR. The Accident and Near-miss Tool aids in the streamlining of incident reporting and in complying with RIDDOR. It does so by

  • Automating the collection of accident and near-miss records
  • Allowing the user to filter accidents and near-misses by location, type, or theme, thus helping users understand how they occur and how to prevent them from occurring again
  • Guiding users through HSE’s investigation framework providing expert advice on investigating incidents and preventing recurrence

HSE has published a series of eight videos on YouTube that explain how to use the Accident and Near-Miss Tool. The software can be licensed on an annual basis.
