Bringing Generations Together
Bringing Generations Together: Taking intergenerational practice to the next level was one of the Care Inspectorate’s featured publications in 2024 even though it was written in 2019. This amazing resource for care homes gives examples of intergenerational practice from Scottish care services and highlights the benefits of bringing people from different generations together.
As seniors, children, and young adults participate together in physical activities, singing, crafting, etc., friendships grow and perceptions change. For example, before interacting with the elderly, when children were asked what older people do, they would say things such as “They sit around.” After five months of intergenerational interactions, they would state, “They know all the nursery rhymes.” Imagine how compassionate and non-judgmental these children may become as they grow into adults.
