The Care Inspectorate recognises how important meaningful connections are to a person’s health and wellbeing. Its Meaningful Connection, Visiting and Anne’s Law Project champions these connections; and the Project has published a fact sheet about visitation in adult and older people’s care homes. This fact sheet asserts the right of people in care to spend time with those who are important to them, including pets, and to take part in their community.
The fact sheet states how care homes should handle visiting in normal and exceptional circumstances. Basically, in normal circumstances, care homes should not place restrictions on visits. However, in exceptional circumstances, care homes may place restrictions on visiting. For the details on how care homes should handle visiting under either of such circumstances, see the fact sheet.
The Care Inspectorate’s website has a whole section on Meaningful Connection, Visiting and Anne’s Law. This part of the website has valuable information and resources not only for care home providers, managers, and staff, but also for residents of care homes and their families and friends.
