Approximately 90,000 people in Scotland are living with dementia, with or without a formal diagnosis, and they make up approximately 65% of the total care home population.1 These individuals may experience isolation and loneliness brought about by the challenges they face in communicating and in forming and maintaining relationships.
“Supporting meaningful connection for people living with dementia” has been published by the Care Inspectorate’s Meaningful Connection, Visiting and Anne’s Law project. It provides practical ideas and strategies for family, care home staff or others who are caring for someone with dementia. The fact sheet also includes a list of additional resources in fighting isolation and loneliness in those living with dementia.
