Treating Choking in Children
Would you know what to do if a child started choking?
The Resuscitation Council UK (RCUK)’s website has detailed instructions for dealing with paediatric incidences of choking. These guidelines inform you when to let a child continue to cough and when it’s time to step in, as well as what to do when you have to take action. RCUK’s website also has a paediatric choking algorithm to take you through what to do in the event of choking.
Just before the holidays is an ideal time to review these instructions for dealing with choking in children, as well as the RCUK’s guidelines for dealing with foreign body airway obstruction in adults, such excellent first aid skills to have.
