The Communication and Interpersonal Skills course is designed to help care workers consider and develop their personal communication skills. It provides an opportunity to develop insight into how people communicate, and what can often be the challenges or barriers to effective communication when a person requires support. Opportunity is given throughout the course to learn various approaches to effective communication, increasing awareness of the impact this can have on the individuals being supported.
COURSE DESCRIPTION
After this one day course staff will:
- Understand the basic human need for communication
- Develop insight into the many forms of verbal and non-verbal communication
- Investigate what motivates, promotes and prohibits communication
- Recognise the importance of cleaning and maintaining sensory aids
- Show insight into self-awareness and assumptions in communication
- Be informed of how to develop active listening skills
- Understand the importance of clear, concise written information
