Shingles Vaccine
If you’ve ever seen anyone suffering from shingles, you’ll more than likely decide to do anything possible to reduce your risk of getting it. Shingles is a painful skin rash that begins with a burning sensation in the skin, followed by a rash of very painful fluid-filled blisters that can then burst and turn into sores. The pain can linger for years even after the sores have healed.
Singles isn’t something you “catch.” Rather, it is caused by the reactivation of the chickenpox virus in people who have previously had chickenpox. This reactivation can be triggered by various factors, including increasing age, stress, and illness.
Does this sound like something you’d rather try to avoid? Do you know you can be vaccinated against this?
The NHS provides the shingles vaccine to people in their 70s. But if you want the vaccine outside this age range, Emcare Travel Clinic can provide it.
Two types of vaccines are available for shingles. Emcare Travel Clinic uses Shingrix, a non-live vaccine given as two doses, two months apart. It will reduce but not eliminate your chances of getting shingles. However, if you do get it, your symptoms will be milder and your illness shorter. So contact the Clinic today.
