The Stoma Care Training Course offers a great opportunity for care staff to learn about different types of stoma in order that they understand the various types of equipment that is available. As well as the practical considerations, thought is given to the psychological and social effects this has on an individual.
Discussion surrounding the maintenance of the stoma, being able to detect changes and taking preventative action is promoted. This course prepares care workers to consider the individual on a personal level as well as developing a good constructive understanding of their condition.
COURSE DESCRIPTION
After this half day course staff will:
- Be aware of the different types of stomas and various equipment which may be used
- Understand the psychological and social effects that having a stoma has on individuals
- Know how to offer practical support to an individual with a stoma
- Have considered how to maintain a healthy stoma and detect and manage the common problems that may occur
